Realization that took about 20 + years. *Facepalm* Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is really about “saving” Cameron. True, Ferris is the star of the show but as he says all he wanted to do was show Cameron a good time, to bring him out of his proverbial shell. Cameron is a clinically depressed loner kid who appears to view Ferris as an irritating but highly amusing diversion. The whole movie Cameron is convinced he’s just trying to manage Ferris and regain control…and then the museum, the breakdown, the long scream, the catatonic sink…the realization. Ferris has set this whole day up not merely for his own personal enjoyment but as an opportunity to humanize Cameron and get closer Sloan.
