Starfleet Personnel File: ZoetikaDax
Human/Trill
Kym Ramos-Reading
East Bay Area, California. Born & raised.
A curious individual given to many interests, yet works as a lead coffee wench.
Current assignment: Peet’s Coffee & Tea.
Father was a Trekkie but it was TaintedAether’s strong suggestion to watch TNG first that sealed the deal.
Username is of course an homage to the inimitable Lt.Commander JadziaDax, however, other favorites include: Jean-Luc Picard, Bones, Spock, Data, Julian Bashir, Riker, Worf, B’Elanna Torres, Trip and of course Kira Nerys. Characters of conviction and cunning, all of them.
Ships:
Cannon: Picard/Crusher, Kira/Odo, Riker/Troi, Trip/T’pol, Spock/Uhura, Paris/Torres, Janeway/Chakotay, \m/ Worf & Dax \m/
Non-Cannon: Bashir/Garak, Ro/Quark, Seven/Cambridge.
Dubious at Best: Dukat/Kai Winn, Intendent Kira/Annika Hansen , Paris/Dr.Chaotica(Cambridge)/Kim.
If possible I would want to be the Captain of a Vesta class combined science & exploration vessel. I would have a strong sciences background and good leadership and tactical skills. Hopefully, I can take off where the Titan has started and strengthen alliances with/offer assistance to new species and use my off shift hours to work on different projects that interest me.
Stumbling upon the Star Trek Fandom was like finding a huge group of friends I didn’t know I had. Some of the best people are Trekkies, no seriously. Some of the kindest, smartest and most progressive people I’ve come across are die hard Trekkies. I think it’s because the real world around us makes us long for something better and every kind of Trek offers a glimpse of that awesome possibility. The shared ideals, inside jokes and otps bind us together as some kind of hilarious family criss-crossing the world over, guaranteeing that on that random tuesday, at the end of a hellish shift, I know that no matter what I can come home, log in and somebody will be on to passionately discuss the finer points of temporal displacement or Kira/Odo 5eva with me. I think I love you all.
(Sorry for the lack of video, I hope the pic I took this evening will do.)

“THIS IS THE DAY MY HANDSOME LITTLE MAN APPLIES FOR THE SCIENCE ACADEMY.”
“MOM, PINCHING MY CHEEKS IS NOT LOGICAL.”
I just choked on my scalding hot tea because this picture popped up.

Stuff I Read In April:
Perspectives On Anarchist Theory: Vol.13 No.2: Care - Various, Edited by Institute For Anarchist Studies
Endgame Volume 2: Resistance - Derrick Jensen
Star Trek: Titan: Fallen Gods - Michael A. Martin
I must confess, Endgame Vol.2 stayed on and off my bookcase for a little over a year. I’d read thirty or fifty pages, get too distraught and then leave it be for weeks at a time. The last time I reacted this way about a book is when I read 1984 on a whim when I was fifteen. Books of such an intense nature; ones that not only expose all the fallacies and injustice of our society but also very obviously prompt the reader to draw parallels in their own personal lives, and in the case of Jensen’s work direct actions are suggested as remedy.
Books like this deserve all the attention of the reader and aren’t to be taken lightly. I also must confess that much like when I was fifteen I have been mired in a deep despair and something bordering on a total loss of hope and hardcore clinical depression for years now.
Several chapters in the book begin with numbered takes on why civilization is killing the world. Being reminded in such a stark and well written manner just exactly what’s wrong and how, and that if only I and most of my neighbors could just give up our current lifestyles and divorce ourselves from all ideologies we hold dear we might just save the planet and ourselves.
I actually do agree with Jensen (except for the talking to trees and fish stuff) and most of his contemporaries about the nature of the problems and as an Anarchist what the solutions are - but- (and you knew this was coming) I, like far too many people have been pushed too far over that psychological edge by society that I’m not sure I can do the work that’s needed and if I have anyone to form and support network with.
All this being said, this book and it’s first half are certainly some of the best books I’ve read in the last year. Jensen’s writing is accessible in its stylistic approach and really engaging while still being academic and sharp. Jensen seems to write much the way he speaks to groups as an educator. I strongly recommend if you read even only one piece of anti-civ literature this year make it this.

He looks injured in that first pic! Also a little scared. Wounded, hurt, spooked… like he knows the crew of the Enterprise is coming after him and now HE’S the one on the run… hmmm…
The anticipation is immense.

Star Trek Into Darkness > new picsbtw… I love the attitude of the young Uhura … I have nothing against the way the writers and director chose to show Uhura on reboot … I think that it’s inspiring have girls with strong personality in Star Trek …
I would also like to see more Spock/Kirk/Bones … let’s see what happens … We have not seen the movie yet!
Would that be a Klingon disruptor in the lovely lady’s hand?
