Sometimes I buy food to just HAVE it, in the house, and to know it’s there, and that I’m prepared in a food-based emergency. A bit like responsible people who keep a fire extinguisher under the sink. Just in case.
I have this same problem often, granted for different reasons (I grew up with incredible financial insecurity/child poverty in a household with parents who were an addict/alcoholic and hardly ever home) and my husband also doesn’t understand why I tend to do what I do and why eating my stuff or using my soap or laundry money freaks me the fuck out. Oh yeah, I do the hoarding this with all my household basics. There is a constant underlying fear of going without again.
